2008 Mustangs Year in Review This spring the Mustangs once again made it into post-season play. For Game 1 of the playoffs Prosser was matched up against the East Valley Red Devils (who finished 2nd in state this year). round one ended with a loss. In the second round Prosser faced Quincy. "We knew we had a good shot at stealing a win from Quincy since 2 of our starters did not play against them in league." It ended up being a real nail biter, with Prosser down by two going into the last inning, but the boys were patient and let the Jacks’ pitchers struggle to get a ball over the plate. We ended up scoring five runs that inning and then held on to our 3-run lead in the bottom of the 7th for the victory. What turned out to be the last game of the season for the Mustangs was a match up against the Ellensburg Bulldogs at Carlon Park in Selah. It wasn’t a pretty game, but we were proud to make it back into the playoffs, and even win a playoff game, for the 2nd season in a row. "Our goal is to host a playoff game next season and we are already working towards that goal with our summer team". -Coach Kevin Cole Future Mustangs On The Diamond Prosser Middle School wrapped up their season on May 14th and you can read all game highlights now online. Prosser Wins 1st Playoff Game Since 1997 It took a few years but they finally did it. Prosser opened districts by traveling to Ephrata to take on the number 2 seeded Tigers. After splitting the season series, the Mustangs took a quick 1-0 but couldn't hold on and finally lost the game which placed them in the losers bracket. 3 days later Prosser traveled to Quincy and beat them on the strength of a no hitter by Tyler Leighty. In the process he tied a school record for strike outs (15) in a game that was held by lefty John Flores. The very next day Prosser had to travel BACK to Ephrata and play Ellensburg in the early bird special. Ellensburg had to much in reserve and beat Prosser 9-2. It was a good season for the Mustangs and they had to battle through a lot before the season even started. But they played with the hand that was dealt and made a very strong run. Less than 2 weeks after the high school season ended, the young Mustangs are back on the diamond and had a successful debut against Grandview in the summer baseball league. At the awards banquet players received their letters, awards and league awards.
